Hope they keep on keepin on
When I first got Magegauntlet two years ago, I instantly respected its gameplay and lighthearted, but enthralling story. I assumed Rocketcat games would make the obvious monetary decision and follow up on Lexis story- so, when Wayward souls first came out I was disappointed at what I saw as a break from a better franchise for a quick dark souls money grab. Fortunately, nothing could be further from the truth; in fact, the story of Wayward souls is tangentially connected with mage gauntlet, showing that Rocketcat is both willing to take risks with wide ranges of games and are sitting on what I can only imagine is a goldmine of lore. Everything here has been tweaked to make a completely fresh game, from the gloomier tone, beautiful but haunting music. (seriously; Joey Grady, you deserve a bonus or prize or something), and clever new designs for both your character(s) and enemies. Additionally, the dash button from Magegauntlet has been replaced with swiping up and down for all sorts of new, but limited abilities; spells, shields, lanterns, e.t.c. This leads to my only gripe with the game- I wish there was an abilities button option instead of the slightly awkward swipe. Maybe its just me- I dont know. Thats just a small issue in an otherwise creative and interesting game that has a fascinating story and timeline in the vein of Zelda or Marvel. Of course, this game wouldnt be complete with some of Rocketcats quirky humor- for example, I ran into a wizard who was going to take over the world with his pie recipe of doom. This game is definitely worth more than what theyre asking for, especially considering that there are absolutely zero in app purchases. In short, please buy this and support a wonderful game by a wonderful company so that they can continue making their unique and fascinating universe grow.
( Rocketcat, if you ever read this, please make Magegauntlet two! I know it would be great.)
